Description

Kaash at it’s core is a film about love, memory, and the challenge of accepting that the most permanent thing about life is change.

A boy yearns for a time, that has passed. Based loosely on the director’s own experiences with love, the film attempts to capture the passion, the fear, the belonging and the possession of young love. Set in the hustle bustle of contemporary India, the film is an amalgamation of the modern and developing. The film explores the differences between small towns and big cities, the seductive and often harsh world of “Bollywood”, as well as India’s complicated relationship with gender, class, and skin colour. We view the country-scape through the eyes of foreign travelers, non resident Indians and the widening aspirations of small town India. With the birth of a generation of young adults conditioned to put themselves first, Kaash is a melancholic exploration of finding a love that lasts against that very backdrop.

Director's Bio

Ishaan Nair, filmmaker and photographer moved back to India after a degree in direction and cinematography in New York.  His thesis film ‘Guroor’ won him the best director award at the Dusty film festival, a nomination at the IAAC,NY festival and was selected at River to River, Florence and Tel Aviv.  In his search for himself, he discovered an innate talent for photography. Without any formal training he has, over the past 4 years, shot covers and editorials for Haraar, L’Officiel, Marie Claire, Filmfare and Grazia magazines. His skill has been quickly recognised and appreciated leading him to photograph some of the best known faces of the thriving Indian film industry. With a stronghold in fashion, he has shot advertising campaigns, films and shows for the most celebrated fashion designers .

‘Kaash’, a film written and directed by Ishaan marks his directorial debut. Presented by Mira Nair, Irrfan Khan and Shimit Amin, and produced by Shailesh Singh (Shahid, Tanu Weds Manu etc.), Kaash is slated to release February 2016.
